san diego hypnotherapyLet me present some preliminary questions we should all ask when considering San Diego Hypnotherapy. So, how many of us have an issue or two that we’d like to get out of the way so we can function at a higher level or just improve our quality of life? How many of us have a skill, business, music or sport, at which we would just like to perform a little better?  How many of us have medical issues that are causing serious complications with everyday life, and medicine and doctors are just not seeming to completely solve the issues?

I think it’s a pretty safe bet to say that most of us fall into one or more of those categories. I think it’s also pretty safe to say that most of us don’t want to spend months or even years hashing over those problems or issues in long counseling sessions, but would rather get on with our lives, in an improved, higher-functioning capacity. We can all do this by accessing the power of our subconscious mind.

San Diego Hypnotherapy – Understanding Your Subconscious Mind

Our subconscious mind is a very powerful tool that we don’t tap into nearly enough and that takes up the majority of our mind. While our conscious mind governs analysis and choice, reasoning, logic, willpower, and the senses, the subconscious governs everything else such as the autonomic nervous system, memory, beliefs, emotions, creative intelligence, imagination and personality traits.

Most of us create beliefs about the world in general between the ages of seven to 11 during situations involving authority figures, peer groups, high emotion, repetition, etc. and we run off of those beliefs for the rest of our lives unless we are able to alter them by accessing the subconscious. I compare this to running off of an old outdated computer system that has never been updated. However, through hypnosis, which accesses the subconscious, we can alter those old beliefs or update them to give them a healthier perspective, bypassing the need for willpower.

What is hypnosis? The term “hypnosis” is from the Greek word hypnos, meaning “sleep.” Hypnotherapists use exercises that bring about deep relaxation to achieve a natural, yet altered state, in which the critical factor is relaxed but focused thinking is maintained. A person in hypnosis is exceptionally relaxed, mentally, emotionally and physically, has a strong desire to fulfill suggested behaviors and is especially responsive to ideas, images and instruction, but this does not mean that a hypnotist can control the person’s mind or free will.

On the contrary, the senses, while in hypnosis, are most often heightened, making them more aware of things around them than usual and they are completely in control of their own self-will. A hypnotherapist CANNOT control the mind or cause someone to divulge secrets about themselves they do not wish to.

However, hypnosis can teach people how to master their own states of awareness. By doing so, they can affect their own bodily functions and psychological and emotional responses. Hypnosis is approved by the American Medical Association and the American Psychological Association. Since 1995, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has also recommended hypnotherapy as a treatment for chronic pain.
